Weather Images from Meteosat
Meteorological satellites
Geostationnary satellites, located 36 000 km above the equator, take part
in global meteorological monitoring. The European satellite, METEOSAT-5,
is at longitude 0°.
IR (infared) images are updated 40 minutes after observation
hour. Hours are given in U.T.C.
Useful information
-
U.T.C. : Universal Time Coordinates, equivalent
to G.M.T. (Greenwich Mean Time). In Tukey, summer time is 3 hours earlier
than U. T.C., winter time is 2 hour earlier than U.T.C.
Ex : On 20 Aug. 97, METEOSAT image at 06h00 U.T.C. was made at 09h,
it was on this page at 9h40 (official time).
